Lincoln Land Community College is currently accepting applications for Peer Tutors to provide one-on-one tutoring for LLCC students who need academic assistance in their courses.
Peer Tutors will perform the following duties:
Peer Tutors will perform the following duties:
- Facilitate the learning process by helping students to “learn-how-to-learn” course material and to take responsibility for their own learning. This involves helping students develop/refine their study skills/habits and sharpen their reasoning and questioning skills. Tutor sessions should be process-oriented, learner-centered and allow for the active participation of both the tutor and the tutee.
- Provide academic assistance to students in one-on-one format, helping them to learn how to (1) develop appropriate study skills and habits, (2) use supplementary materials, (3) work with their professors, (4) clarify classroom and textbook information, (5) interpret rules, definitions, use, etc. and (6) work with sample problems or examples.
- Regularly meet with the Student Academic Support Programs (SASP) Coordinator for debrief sessions to (1) discuss observations of the tutoring sessions, (2) discuss the use of a wide variety of learning strategies and (3) notify coordinator about problems or potential problems.
- Be familiar with other academic support services (Center for Academic Success and around campus).
- Communicate with course instructors as much as possible; support faculty as the primary source of course information.
- Complete and submit timesheets and other required documents according to established deadlines
- Meet with other campus peer tutors and supervisory staff at scheduled meetings.
- Adhere to the policies that have been established by the tutoring program
All LLCC Student Workers have the following institutional responsibilities:
- Uphold LLCC’s mission, as well as certain standards of conduct within the College and in dealings with students, staff, faculty and the general public.
- Responsible for compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other regulations with regard to confidentiality of and access to student and other institutional records.
Student Workers will be paid $14.00 and will be scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week between the hours of Monday through Thursday 8AM-7PM and Friday 8AM-5PM.
Requirements include the following:
- Must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) during the semester of employment, with the exception of summer term.
- Complete LLCC’s mandatory harassment prevention training within 30 days of employment.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or better is required; must maintain at least a 3.0 average.
- Must have received an “A” in the course(s) you wish to tutor. (Exceptions will only be made upon permission of the course instructor and the Academic Support Programs Coordinator.)
- Complete all mandatory training requirements for CRLA Level 1 Peer Tutor Certification within 30 days of employment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
- Must have a high level of patience and a sincere desire to help others.
If working with minors, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
